Well to start off, I graduated from college in May. All the while things were going not as planned; the senior show had to be moved online, the Opelika mural got cancelled and other sad news. Since then I have been hoping to find a job before I feel bad for living with my parents for so long. I never thought that would happen to me and yet, here I am. I took up a couple commissions to fill my time and make some money. They have been challenging but also have provided me with an ample amount of practice.
The piece above is one that I just finished last week and I am so happy it's done. It was fun to work on, especially the dogs. The brown dog gave me trouble at first but it turned out all right. The subject's face and skin tones was particularly challenging for me because I hadn't painted skin since I had graduated. Needless to say, it worked out fine. I also found myself adopting a neat little signature for my future works.
I have one more commission to go and it's a wedding portrait that is giving me some real trouble, but I should be done before Christmas (Happy Holidays!). Once I finish that piece I'm thinking of picking up painting landscapes. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I thought it would be worth my while because I've gotten a lot of practice with painting people. Anyway, this is my first blog post on my newly refurbished site and I would like to say a warm hello to anyone who stops by and reads this. Have a great day :)
